Midnight Voice Memos is a totally independent labor of love. If you enjoy this work please consider becoming a paid subscriber, grabbing a music Rx from the Song Apothecary, or picking up some Unwritten Records.

Drugs. Drugs and music. Drugs and music go together like ramma-lamma-lamma-ka-dingity-da-dinga-dong.

Writing and recording music is often accompanied by taking drugs. Same same with listening to or watching music. Some songwriters write about taking drugs, or human experiences that feel like taking drugs. Others make music that gorgeously sits alongside the taking of drugs.

Not to mention, music itself can have a drug-like effect on your brain.

A few of my favorite druggy songs:

  • ‘Ecstasy’ - JJ

  • ‘365’ - Charlie xcx

  • ‘Xanny Bar’ - Porches

  • ‘Special K’ - Placebo

It is not the remit of this newsletter to advise on or encourage music-related drug use, but it is an observable and discussed phenomenon. Music and drugs are BFFs. Sometimes, anyway.

This week, I’m sharing some Entry Points from that intersection.

Blaze,
Lucy
