Song Club #6: Breakfast
Breakfast is, arguably, the richest meal of the day when it comes to music-making. Breakfast means staying over and being around the morning after—classic pop song fare.
Breakfast is, arguably, the richest meal of the day when it comes to music-making. Breakfast means staying over and being around the morning after—classic pop song fare. It’s simultaneously sexy and innocuous. It can signal the dreary and mundane, or the deeply vulnerable. It can be a family affair, or an intimate event. And it’s also the meal with the most sounds—pops, sizzles, whistles, and percussive pours et al.
Breakfast is a staple in so many songs, from the opening lines of Jewel’s "You Were Meant For Me" to Prince’s "Breakfast Can Wait", from lines in "Rapper’s Delight" to "Waffle House" by the Jonas Brothers. Hell, "Tom’s Diner" might have taken place over breakfast!
This week, I want you to explore how breakfast can figure in your own writing!
Keep going!
