Song Club #32: Message In A Bottle
We surrender them to the outside world with no control over what ears they reach, and we hope.
As a child, I was really taken with the idea of desert island messages sent it bottles. The gesture itself felt unlikely to yield results and when, in stories, these bottles found their target my young mind was strongly comforted. Impossible, marvelous things could and would happen!
This notion of a true and desperate message launched out into the ocean with the slimmest chances of being seen feels to me like an analogy for writing and releasing songs. We write songs wanting them to be received lovingly. We surrender them to the outside world with no control over what ears they reach and we hope. We can only hope.
So this week, I want us to see what is set free and sent forth when we use the message in a bottle analogy deliberately in our songwriting process.
Big love and keep going,
Lucy
