I’m back in the States, and summer is well and truly here. In much of the country we’re in the midst of a record heat wave. Near me, Prospect Park is full of people picnicking, their chatter and their tunes.
My favorite summer songs make me feel like I’m experiencing Summer, even when I’m not. They feel like sun beating down on days that stretch forever, or coasting around back streets on a bicycle.
Also, *hot* take, but I’d wager more than any other topic, summer songs are about feel and not lyrics. Groove and movement matters, as does finding a collection of sounds for your arrangement that evokes heat. Summer songs are all about vibe.
This week, in our songwriting, let’s explore summer.
Keep going,
Lucy
