Song Club #1: Fragments
So much of life comes to us in fragments: little bits of information, partial pictures, over-heard conversations ...
This week, I want you to explore: fragments.
So much of life comes to us in fragments: little bits of information, partial pictures, over-heard conversations, half-understood ideas, and other broken things. Sometimes songs come to us in fragments too: a lyrical phrase here, a chorus hook there. Fragments might signal danger or destruction. Or, they might point to rebuilding, assemblage, reconstructed meaning. There's a lot musically and lyrically to play with here. I hope you have fun!
Warmly,
Lucy
SONG PROVOCATIONS
Write about something you broke.
Yes, it could be a heart, but I'd push you to stretch your imagination a little further. It could be a tangible or intangible thing. One might signal the other, even. Explore the sensory and emotional world of the broken thing. You might even try to make the music sound broken in the same way.
